Who am I?
I am Kevin, and I love photography. I started when I was about 10 years old with my little disc camera from Kodak™, moving onto the old 135’s, to the Canon™ 35mm AE1, then up to the Canon™ Rebel and finally ending with my pride and joy, my partner if you will, Canon™ Digital Rebel XTi. It is my passion. Some people in the world say it’s almost an addiction, a lust, an obsession. There is not a time when the camera is not cloaking my face. The camera is a part of me and it captures what I see and feel when I look at an object. The ability to capture the essence of the moment, or the spirit of an animal, the personality of a person, or just capture the smallest details or the right light to capture the senses without being able to smell, hear, taste, or feel what is in the shot. I pride myself in my ability to be able to do that, I may take a hundred shots of some things, but on the other hand, you may only have one shot to get it right. I have been told over the years that I have a natural eye for the shot, but I never believed in myself enough to pursue it to the fullest of my abilities. I wish I had listened sooner, because I would be traveling the world bringing home the world in pictures.
Traveling is my next passion, which I feel goes hand and hand with photography, because it captures what you set out to do or visit. Pictures from a vacation, event, or special place you have visited are your tag of saying I was there. It also brings back the memories of good times and bad times. Photography is a life journal of yourself and the people in your life. Everyone in the world with a camera is a photo journalist in their own way, some are better at it than others. Traveling also gives me the opportunity to learn about new people, places, and things that affect me and the world I live in. Capturing the moments at our family reunions gives me great satisfaction because it helps me identify the relationships that helped cultivate me into the person I am today. Using my camera is not just taking pictures, it is more about looking at something and seeing what is hidden deep inside. Being passionate about something is being a part of something.
I want to become the best in photography and sell my works all over the world. It would bring me great pleasure to walk into an establishment and see one of my pieces hanging in an office or restaurant. Working with an advertising firm would bring me happiness because my work would be seen hundreds, even thousands of times. It would be my fifteen minutes of fame in the time line of the world. Our time in the world is short, in a manner of speaking, but like De Vinci, Michael Angelo, and Rembrandt, they will live long after they have gone as we marvel at their works for centuries into the future. I may never reach that plateau, but it is going to be an exciting journey trying to get there. All I want is to be the best in photography as I can and to bring back the world in pictures. A picture is worth a thousand words and I want to be able to do that every day of my life. So what vocation do I want when I “grow up”, a commercial photographer or photo journalist, does not matter to me, as long as I am taking the shot and capturing the events that changes our lives.
So who am I? I am just a man in this gigantic world who enjoys traveling and photography who wants to give back to the world my view of the world with my camera. I am a person who wants to capture the events that touch our hearts and souls every day, the sights and events that will change our history, the tastes that makes your mouth water, the aromas that makes you hungry, and the sounds of our daily lives. I want to give the world a 4x6 photo that, without making a sound or smell, will embrace the senses and capture the moment, It is amazing that in as little as 1/8000 of a second, you can capture a moment that will last for life in someone’s heart.
